#I took a break from Plato (class research) to get out of the house and get some steps. I have been derelict in walking these past three days. I needed the air, steps, and change of scenery as much as getting away from Plato. Shhh.. don't tell my professor. It was hot, but fortunately a light breeze that felt heavenly upon my neck. This was my first time on this frail, the Rock Island Spur of the Katy Trail. It cuts through what was a heavily wooded area the runs just east of the house. There were maybe a dozen bikers on the trail, I was the only pedestrian. There was a park ranger on a small motorized 4 wheel vehicle. So it is nice to know it is patrolled. There was greenery and trees and brush. Looking ahead of you as you walked you could tell the trees ahead at many points provided shadows creating shaded parts. I was amazed at the areas loaded with large size ferns. I presume opening up the edges of the woods allowed native ferns more direct access to the light and with less brush around them, they had been allowed unrestrained growth. One could spend a whole day just cataloging all the various foliage along the trail. But Pluto will not allow me the time for that but would likely praise my thirst for such knowledge. My eros lies in a different direction than the plant world but for certain I did find the Maple leaf viburnum (a newly learned plant) to have fascinating large leafs. Further exploitation of the trail is for another day. #RockIslandSpur #Biketrail #walkingtrail #nature #exercise Below are photos from the outing.

This was bought with a gift card from my Daughter Cathy Ann and it joins my larger Lochby Journal and EDC roll up in everyday use. Visit Lochby.com Friday's are always questionable to me. Excited at the end of the week, or just too tired by then to enjoy the thought of the weekend. Honestly it can go either way.
Got a call from a poet friend today and she answered some manuscript questions for me. There are some really nice poets out theres and this is definitely one of them. I have worked on homework several hours today. I've lost actual count. It is enough for today and it is time to step back from it, she here I am. RANDOM WORDS: hollow - sad - closed - improved - kiss - skin - legs. [think about these words and write tonight] Fridays are days that anymore like a crap shoot if I am anxious for the weekend or not. It all depends on things I won't go into here.
I have a lot of material out presently - poems, that is. I would like to hear this weekend on a few of them, but I know I will be working on more of them. I am doing "The Grind" for like the 8th or ninth month since last year. That is where I write one a day and post with a group of others. It has been a great source for new work. They often require a little polishing up, who who sends off a new draft poem without some revision? I will have lots of school reading this weekend. My #mood currently: #frustrated #artist And so today I suppose I should be excited. Or experience trepidation, or something different. I am going back to school after all these hundreds of years. Still, the prevailing emotion at this moment is that of sadness. People I care about face difficult situations today. So it is not that easy to think about myself at this point. #mood #Sad #back2school First, I love blackberries. Last year i bought a small container with a small branch and leaves trying to me a blackberry plant. It grew a bit, had a couple buds and produce one blackberry not was not confiscated by bird or whatever. The plant went on to barely survive. Moved it to the fence and this spring it came alive in abundance. In this photo taken today you will note it's height and the abundance of buds and flowers coming out. I believe this is the beginning of a success story. I THINK ALL WRITERS DO THIS- So, what writer has not been reading along in someone else's work and all of a sudden read a line and go, "WOW! I wish I had written that!" Several of my favorite writers have books that. have a few such lines in the. I have started reading Susan Rich's book Gallery Of Postcards And Maps, published by Salmon Poetry. I am not deep into this book yet, I have been reading it kind of slow to savor the bits of language. Here are however a few of the gems from the book thus far...
MOOD: Today my mood is sad. In part because due to the Uvalde, Texas shooting but also for some friends in need of a miracle as well. P.S. wrote a poem about the aftermath of the shooting. #LinesIwishIwrote. #Mood @susanrichpoet. #Blackberries |
