Michael A. Wells is a poet, a baseball aficionado, lover of wine and a Diet Coke addict. He makes his home in Kansas City, Missouri.
Along with 24 other emerging writers, Michael was chosen from some 400 applicants for the Writer to Writer Mentorship Program Spring 2017 session through the Association of Writers and Writing Programs.
His work has been published in a variety of print and on line venues including - Rockhurst Annual Fine Arts Review, Rose & Thorn Journal, Boston Literary Magazine, Punchnel's Magazine, Montucky Review, Right Hand Pointing, Whale Sound (Audio), Gravel A Literary Review, and Nude Bruce Review.
Michael was awarded the 2005-2006 Silver ( runner up) Senior Missouri Poet Laureate Award for his poem Coming Out.
In 2011 two of Michael's poems appeared in the exhibit "Synesthesia" pared with paintings by the talented Jennifer Rivera an abstract artist from the Kansas City area. Jennifer selected a number of poems from various poets and utilized them as the inspiration for paintings used in the exhibit.
In September of 2013 a third painting of Rivera's inspired by a poem of Michael's was a part of a showing at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in St Joseph, Missouri.
His poem Tiananmen Mother was pupblshed by the Independent Chineese PEN Center.
Michael is a member of the Writers Place - a major hub for the Kansas City area literary scene and had been a member of AWP since 2014.
Michael has been a frequent reader at events in the Kansas City Area. He is presently working on a poetry manuscript for publication.
